Abbott Pushes For Coal To Be Recognised In Australian Constitution

The prime minister Tony Abbott is leading a push for coal to be recognised in the Australian constitution as being the original energy source of our land.

Mr Abbott considers the entrenched discrimination against coal over the last 20 year in favour of renewable energies to be a national shame. He is also pushing for a formal apology for the period, what he referred to as the “Solar generation”.

The prime minister made his claim in a speech delivered in the coal heartland of Singleton, NSW. He started his speech by paying his respect to Xstrata, and acknowledged them as the original owners of mining rights in the area.

“Coal was here for thousands of years before we came to this land. We brought the solar panels, we build the wind farms. We installed the snowy mountain scheme. It was our ignorance and our prejudice”.

Fossil fuels now make up 88% of Australia’s total energy use, with the remaining gap to 100% composed of renewable energies like solar, wind and hydro electric. Abbott has stated it’s his mission in government to close this gap.
