The stark reality of the Russian economic crisis has come to light as President Vladimir Putin has taken a weekend job at Bunnings Warehouse.
The move adds to the concern of the collapsing rouble. Sanctions imposed by Western governments and a falling oil price in recent months has lead to Russia facing a recession as billions of dollars are being withdrawn from the country.
A spokesman for the Russian leader tried to downplay the move to Bunnings saying: “It’s nothing to worry about, he’s just got a few bills to pay and needs the extra hours.”
Mr Putin refused to directly answer questions about a possible recession, instead saying “come and see me on Saturday, whipper snippers are 10% off”.
