The Governor of Missouri in the United States, Jay Nixon, has pleaded with the citizens of Ferguson, to exercise “peace and restraint” following a Grand Jury’s decision that police officer Darren Wilson was not himself required to exercise those values.
All nine members of the grand jury agreed there was not enough evidence to charge officer Wilson in relation to the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in August.
Brown, an eighteen year old resident of Ferguson, was shot six times, a perfectly reasonable use of force according to the jury.
Worried that by setting one standard of impulsive violence and intolerance for white law enforcement, Governor Nixon was quick to quash any sense that black citizens may be entitled to exercise these same powers.
“Please, exercise peace and tolerance” the Governor implored his constituents, “give us the consideration and protection we do not give you.”
“Yes, a teenager died, but how much is a life actually worth? Rioting can cost up to hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage.”
The decision has already sparked clashes in Ferguson, with talking heads decrying the response of Brown’s supporters.
“We should oppose violence in all forms, unless it’s done by a police officer, in which case we should just silently accept it,” Sean Hannitty told Fox News viewers.
A spokesperson for Darren Wilson has informed The (un)Australian that “Mr Wilson is relieved by the grand jury’s decision.”
Michael Brown could not be reached for comment but is believed to still be dead as the result of officer Wilson’s actions.
