While appreciating the gesture, Australia’ muslim population has put out a request that boring non muslim Australians would stop sitting beside them on the train or bus and let them journey to their destination in peace.
“Look, it’s really nice that people want to express solidarity in the wake of the horrific events in Martin Place but I can only look at so many photos of grand kids from some middle aged lady from Yagoona, said Fahriza from Regents Park. “I pretended that I lived at Erskineville and got off the train early just to escape from her.”
“I think it’s wonderful that people want to make sure that no-one picks on me for wearing my scarf but do it in silence, please,” said Afrouzah from Werrington. “I spent two hours yesterday listening to some girl prattling on about who should have won this year’s season of The Block. Enough’s enough, all I want to on the train is finish off the crossword.”
“I’m not even a muslim. I’m going through chemo at the moment which is why I’m wearing a scarf”, said Merrily from Hornsby. “I had to sit between two teenage girls from Normanhurst while they argued about which Hunger Games movie was the best. In the end I just whipped my scarf off and tried to smother one of them just to shut her up.”
