The Australian Navy has knocked off early from work today to go check out a submarine that some bloke is selling on e-classified site Gumtree.
“I’m bringing along a mate who’s a bit of a submarine-head to help me give it the once over”, said Rear Admiral Gordon Jago. “And I’m going ask some tough questions like why is the guy selling it and has it ever had any bingles?”
“It looks okay in the photo and it still has ten months rego left on it”, said Admiral of the Fleet William Nicholson. “When I phoned the guy he admitted that while there was a bit of rust in the periscope, his mechanic had said it would only cost about fifty bucks to fix it.”
“We drove up to Crows Nest last week to have a look at a 1998 Kursk that some bloke named Vlad had put in the Trading Post but we didn’t like the look of it,” said Rear Admiral Jago. “There was some rust near the torpedo shaft that I could put my finger through and the engine made a funny knocking noise when we took it for a spin around the block.”
The navy has promised not to finalise the purchase of the sub until after some skin divers have been sent down to kick the tyres.
