Can We Bomb BOM? PM Considers Options As Weather Bureau Goes On Strike

Ministers say Tony Abbott often suggests unilateral military action in cabinet meetings.

Prime Minister Tony Abbot says nothing is off-limits as the government stares down the decision by CSIRO staff to start industrial action this month.

The scientists and related staff join several other public service departments planning to stop work including the Department of Agriculture, Environment and the Bureau of Meteorology itself. The latter’s threats have sent chills down the spine of every TV weather reporter in the country with fears they may have to look up at the sky instead of at the autocue.

Tony Abbott often suggests unilateral military action in cabinet meetings, despite being widely ridiculed for his proposal to send the Australian Defence Force into Iraq.

Ministers have told The (un)Australian off the record that it’s usually the second thing to come out of his mouth no matter the subject. According to one senior minister: “He proposed solving the GP tax impasse by shelling the AMA headquarters and was convinced sending a panzer unit to Canberra University we could get us the higher education reforms.”

The bureau is predicting cloudy periods ahead for the government with a violent storm warning current for the next month and an 85% chance of consistent sardonic laughter from the opposition.
