Police have rushed to assure the public there was no need for panic after the discovery of explosive chemicals and weapons at the house of a 32-year-old Brisbane man, declaring they could confirm the arrested man “was not a Muslim”.
The man, whom police described as “definitely white”, was arrested and charged with several offences, including manufacturing explosives. However, Superintendent Nigel Whitepower emphasised there was “no evidence this is terrorist-related”, noting “it is not as if he had a plastic sword”.
Whitepower said there was no reason to believe the incident was connected to the upcoming G20 summit, pointing out that “we have searched the house thoroughly and have failed to uncover a single copy of the Koran”.
