‘High Risk’ Prison Inmates To Be Banned From ‘Looking Foreign’

NSW Attorney-General Brad Hazzard has followed his decision to stop “high-risk” inmates in Goulburn Prison from communicating in Arabic with a new measure to stop prisoners from “looking foreign”, suggesting long beards, “funny looking” clothes and brown skin could all be banned.

The banning of Arabic is part of a campaign to prevent Muslim prisoners from becoming “radicialised” and concluding that the Western world hates them and has no respect for their beliefs, values or ethnic background. Hazzard told The (un)Australian: “Obviously the first step to achieve this is banning all communication in a language like Arabic that their holy book is written in, their prayers are spoken in and, in many cases, is the main language their family, friends and communities speak in on a daily basis.

“They need to know that this is Australia and we are a nation of openness and tolerance, so they won’t be needing to use that terrorist towelhead tongue any more.

“This is also why we are forcing Imams to deliver prayers to prisoners entirely in English, despite the fact Islamic prayers are recited in Arabic everywhere else on the entire planet. We want to show how serious we are about breaking down any sense of alienation from our society they might be feeling in a maximum security prison facing charges under anti-terror laws condemned by civil liberties groups as draconian measures stripping them of rights usually accorded to defendants.

“But I got thinking,” Hazzard said, “does this go far enough? And then it struck me that, to stop the appeal of an ideology that views the Western world as inherently hostile, these Muslim prisoners should really be stopped from looking so foreign.”

The attorney-general said other ideas he’d had to combat radicalisation included nightly Koran burnings with enforced singing of Christian hymn around the bonfires, bacon in all prison meals and having prison guards perform their duties while wearing masks depicting the Prophet Muhammad. “Anything, really, to discourage them from developing a sense of hatred towards our government and society.”
