The AUS Dictionary has today announced that the word adultery has been named it’s 2023 word of the year, narrowly pipping arsehole, a word commonly used to describe real estate agents.
”It was quite a tough year this year but in the end, adultery came up trumps, pun intended,” said a Spokesperson for the AUS Dictionary. ”Seeing Barnaby Joyce flaunt his latest marriage on social media really helped drive it across the line.”
”Who knows what 2024 will bring, divorce, alimony maybe?”
When asked how the panel come up with their word of the year, the Spokesperson said: ”It’s a long and exhaustive process that involves many meetings, many drinks and many darts being thrown at the wall.”
”I’d be lying if I said we didn’t just skim through an old dictionary and pick a word at random.”
”Not like we took some phrase and imagined how it would be shortened by the younger generation.”
”Cosy livs anyone.”
