The Western Sydney suburb of Bankstown was yesterday declared to be Terra Nullius following its discovery by Attorney General George Brandis on Monday. Minister Brandis QC, who is also a Senator, found that there was no evidence of a pre-existing settlement in the relevant area and that pursuant to s18C f the of the Counter Terrorism Amendment Act (Foreign Finders Bill) the federal government was now in a position to incorporate Bankstown into the Commonwealth.
Senator Brandis QC had been passing through Bankstown as part of a national metadata site seeing tour. The Prime Minister is expected to make a statement later today to clarify whether Bankstown will become a de jure member of Team Australia.
