As the world mourned a new tragedy with a plane crashing in southern France killing all of its 150 passengers, Malaysian Airlines representatives were releasing sighs of relief rather than press release when it was revealed the plane belonged to budget airline Germanwings and not the beleaguered Malaysian company.
A spokesperson for Malaysian Airlines told The (un)Australian: “Firstly our deepest condolences goes out to families and friends of all those poor people who lost their lives in the crash, but, boy, I don’t think I’ve ever felt more relieved as when I found out it wasn’t our plane.
“I mean, when the news came through that a plane had crashed I thought ‘oh not again’, as you know bad things do tend to happen in threes, but just before I could start drafting a press release the news came through that it was a Germanwings plan. I tell you if you could bottle that feeling of relief you’d be a millionaire!”
Malaysian Airlines had, in the Queen’s words, an annus horribilis with one plane being shot down over the Ukraine and another veering off it’s flight path more than a year ago, which still remains missing.
