An attendee at one of the Reclaim Australia rallies held over the Easter weekend says they were shocked to find out that most of the people at the Neo-Nazi backed rally were racists.
Norm Proulx, a machinist and father of three said, “There’s a lot going on in the world that I don’t really understand because the telly and the papers and politicians don’t ever seem to explain anything. I’m struggling to pay the bills, and the mortgage, and the kids’ school [sic], and I’m worried I’m gonna get laid off. Plus there’s terrorists everywhere. So I’m usually pretty scared all the time.
“But when I heard about these rallies, and that Islam was to blame for everything, I felt really good, you know? But I never thought they’d be all racist. Especially because the organisers kept saying they weren’t racist.”
Asked about whether links to White Power groups and the intensely racist, homophobic, macho, and violent language, on all the event Facebook pages might have provided some hint as to the nature of the rally, Mr Proulx said that he had thought it was all just a bit of “un-pc fun”.
“I mean, yeah, virtually every comment on the page used offensive terms for Muslims and talked about shooting them or rounding them all up and dumping them at sea and stuff, but I thought people were just being ironic and edgy. You know, like how comedians say offensive shit to get up the noses of feminists and lefties. How was I supposed to know they were serious? Oh shit, do you reckon that video praising Hitler was for real too? I sent that to my Grandad! Shit!”
In a statement to the media, Reclaim Australia national media coordinator, Krystal Night reiterated that Reclaim Australia was not racist. “We are not racist,” it read. When contacted by The (un)Australian for further comment, Ms Knight said, “What the fuck is your problem? Are you some sort of greenie communist? Look, if there was any racism or violence or Nazi salutes from Reclaim Australia participants, it was obviously the fault of Islam! Islam is making white people racist so it can take over! Why can’t you see that? The Halal is in our food!”
