NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has warned residents of NSW that if the state’s gambling revenue doesn’t rise, she will be forced to enact another lock down, which would involve residents being forced to stay in their local RSL.
“As Premier, I don’t ask much of my citizens – just that they spend some of their money on the pokies, and they buy an apartment or two,” said Berejiklian. ”I’ve heard some horror stories about the last couple of months! Some clubs have been really doing it tough.”
”I mean, how horrific is it that Newstart has been effectively doubled, yet that money has not flowed back to the pokies?!”
When asked why she was looking at encouraging people to gamble, rather than, say spend at the money at their local cafe or shop, the Premier said: ”Why would anyone want to go to their local cafe when they could eat some complimentary peanuts whilst having a slap on the pokies?”
”Now, if you’ll excuse me, I saw some older ladies down the road. I’m going to drop them off at their local RSL.”
