Tourism Australia has received millions of hits to its web page after airing a mock trailer for a sequel to the classic Australian movie Alvin Purple during yesterday’s Superbowl.
“We’ve specifically targeted the randy young bloke with a cheeky sparkle in his eye segment of the North American tourist market,” said Tourism Australia executive Wally Gidday. “We’ve identified “the bush” as a major drawcard, specifically the unruly seventies style “bush” sported by several of the supporting actresses in the original movie.”
In the trailer James Franco plays the American son of Alvin Purple returning to Australia and engaging in mildly risque soft core hi-jinx with a slew of famous faces such as Judy Davis, Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman.
The revelation has however disappointed fans of the original movie who were looking forward to the sequel.
“They left the original trilogy uncompleted at the end of Alvin Rides Again and we need to know how they tie up the loose ends of this epic story,” said Alvin Purple aficionado Phil Raincoat. “Naturally none of us true fans consider Melvin, Son Of Alvin as canon.”
