A consignment of 500 t-shirts emblazoned with the phrase “Bring Back the BOF” has ignited fears that Premier Mike Baird’s leadership may be in danger.
BOF is a nickname sometimes used for Baird’s predecessor Barry O’Farrell who resigned in April this year following revelations of his crippling alcoholism.
In 2011 Mr O’Farrell lead the NSW Liberal Party to a record breaking election win and appeared on track for a commanding re-election at the time of his shock resignation.
Since O’Farrell’s departure however Newspoll has recorded a sharp narrowing in the parties two parties preferred lead, sparking concerns about Premier Baird’s leadership.
On Tuesday, the t-shirts were delivered to the parliament house office of backbench MP Laurie Cameron, a known supporter of O’Farrell.
Mr Cameron told The (un)Australian “There is absolutely no thought being given to replacing Baird before the election.
These t-shirts are merely a contingency for if the worst should happen next year, in which case the party should consider returning to our most successful leader in thirty years.”
The NSW election will be held in March.
