Peter Costello Still Not Sure When To Launch His Leadership Challenge

Former treasurer Peter Costello was still making up his mind last night about whether or not now was a good time to challenge for the leadership of the Liberal party.

“There’s no need to rush these things”, said Costello last night from his Melbourne home. “Tony still has the support of at least 69 Australians, and that’s in the government alone. There’s probably dozens more out there in the general public who still think he’s doing a good job, so why rock the boat. Besides, he’s a big tough bloke and he might hit me if I ran against him.”

Although no longer a member of parliament and making a lucrative living posing for stock photographs of smirks, Costello could be parachuted back into Canberra via a by-election.

“If that were the happen then I definitely would consider making a challenge,” said Costello. “When the time is right… after a decade or so… what do you reckon? Should I give it a go?”
