Fans of the AFL club Richmond were stunned to learn that upon completion of the final round of the year that their side would continue playing throughout September.
“Mate I’m stunned you know, I thought we play till the end of August finish 9th then the boys go to Bali and we watch Hawthorn win the premiership,” said Richmond fan Barry Bower. “But now we go on to play Geelong and then if we keep winning we could even win a flag, I must be dreaming.”
Whilst Richmond fans were stunned at their team’s success fans of AFL powerhouse Hawthorn were in shock knowing that their side will not be playing in September.
“Last year was tough when we didn’t make it to the preliminary final let alone win the flag, but now we didn’t make the 8. What will I do in September? Next week is jersey day at work, am I still allowed to wear my Hawks jersey? I mean without winning a premiership or being in contention I’ll just be walking around wearing a brown and gold jumper.”
The AFL has announced that they will offer counselling for disbelieving Hawthorn fans and encouraged fans of other non-successful clubs like Collingwood to embrace their fellow cellar dwellers.
