Politician, minister and prominent tweeter Fred Nile spent the day yesterday in Sydney taking “selfies” at Martin Place in the hope it would help end the hostage situation.
Whilst most leaders and respectable human beings stayed out of the CBD so that police could do their job, Nile joined hordes of selfie taking, alcohol-drinking on-lookers in Martin Place. It is believed he was there to help with a view that a 70-something old man embracing modern technology would somehow inspire the police or persuade the hostage taker to give up.
There is no word yet on whether Mr Nile will take his selfie campaign world-wide to such hot spots as Gaza, Syria or Schoolies.
It has been a busy year for Mr Nile who has, when not on social media, been a passionate crusader against marriage equality. Mr Nile’s argument against it is that marriage is for procreation; with that in mind we wish the 79-year-old Nile and his 55-year-old bride, who he married last year, all the best as they try to conceive a child.
