NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has declared a state of emergency after figures came in showing that revenue from gambling in bush fire affected areas was down.
“We won’t panic yet but we do need to make sure that people can get to and from pubs and clubs to gamble safely,” said the NSW Premier. “We will be looking in to ensuring that all evacuation points in NSW if needed, will be in a pub or club with fully working gaming facilities.”
“I also call on those out of the fire zone to maybe consider going down to your local pub or club and putting a few pineapples through the machines to show them that you care about your State.”
When asked why gambling was such a priority when people were losing their houses and livelihoods in the fires the Premier said: “Gambling revenue keeps this State pumping. How else do you think we can continually knock down and rebuild our stadiums?”
“I swear you media types sometimes don’t see the burnt forests for the trees.”
