Conservative commentators have declared that Section 18c of the Racial Discrimination act is to blame for Australia’s run of budget deficits and are calling on the Turnbull Government to act to fix it.
Leading the charge against 18c is the man who has fallen foul of it, Andrew Bolt, who explained his reasoning: “18c is holding this country back. Many an Australian will come up to me on the street and say, ‘look Andrew I’m not racist but’, and there’s the problem. All this wasted time having to declare you’re not racist is slowing this country down. Let bigots be productive bigots.”
Also in favour of repealing Section 18c is NSW Senator David Leyonhjelm, who said of 18c: “Australian’s should be able to call a spade a spade and yes I’m talking about the garden tool. This country is soft, we need to be able to abuse people and have access to guns, like America. They don’t have a problem with free speech, race or guns, do they?”
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull could not be reached for comment, however former Prime Minister Tony Abbott told us he would be releasing a book based on his struggles with 18c titled, I Was Wrong About 18c But Malcolm Is Wronger!
