NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has declared that she is saying nup to the Melbourne cup and has called upon all residents of NSW to join her in spending the day on the pokies instead of watching and betting on the race.
“Look, I have nothing against horse racing, I mean how good was the Everest. But the thought of NSW residents gambling on a Victorian horse race when they could be gambling in their own State truly sickens me,” said the Premier. “How dare people try and spend their hard earned gambling money interstate when they could be spending it here.”
“What’s the Melbourne cup got that Rooty Hill RSL hasn’t?”
When asked whether she was concerned about the pro-gambling message that her Government was sending the Premier replied: “Not at all. Gambling has so many, many benefits to this State. How do you think we pay for all the Stadiums we are building?”
“Do you think the NRL or A-League kick in the cash. No, those stadiums are built with hard earned gambling revenue and stamp duty.”
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to drive a few pensioners to Wenty Leagues so they can gamble the afternoon away.”
