Guest Editorial: An Australian Mt Rushmore As Picked by Tony Abbott

What an honour and a privilege it is for theunaustralian.net to have me write for them today a column on who I think should be on Australia’s Mt Rushmore.

The first face to be chiselled into the rock is of course, Gina Rinehart. Let’s face it, wherever we build the Australian Mt Rushmore the odds are high that Gina already owns the mining rights for the land.

The next face to be immortalised is the first great Australian, the man who, let’s face it is the reason we are all here, it is of course Captain Cook. I could write many, many pages on Captain Cook and in fact I have, be sure to pick up my new book. Available in all good bookstore clearance bins by Christmas.

The third face to make it on to an Australian Mt Rushmore is of course, Sir Prince Philip. Some say that when I, as Prime Minister, knighted Prince Philip it brought the whole country together. People still come up to me today and tell me how happy they were that day, why they even laughed so hard that they cried, tears of joy.

The final pick for my Mt Rushmore is a man who I hold in the highest of regard, Cardinal George Pell. What can I say about the Cardinal, he touched so many. I’m sure where ever he is now he’d be looking up at us and smiling.

Those unlucky to miss out on a spot on my Mt Rushmore include: John Howard, Alan Jones (he did touch many but not quite as many as the Cardinal), Plucka Duck, Mo Mackey, Andrew Bolt, Ray Hadley, Andrew Hastie, Prince Andrew and of course Peta Credlin.
