Fresh off pushing Malcolm Turnbull into extra time on election day, Opposition leader Bill Shorten was today celebrating France’s honourable loss to Portugal in the final of Euro 2016.
Speaking to The (un)Australian, a jubilant Mr Shorten said: “What an honourable loss for France, I mean 1-nil how close was that, the French must be so proud of that effort.
“I know I speak for a lot of the world when I say that time will prove that France were the real winners of Euro 2016.”
Asked whether he expected the French manager to be challenged, Mr Shorten replied: “You don’t replace a successful manager, I mean it’s not like the manager can make the voters, I mean players do the right thing in overtime.”
Asked his thoughts on the Euro final, Mr Shorten’s one time rival for the Labor leadership, Anthony Albanese, when simply said: “Winners are grinners.”
