Opposition leader Bill Shorten has sent a thank you bouquet of flowers to the Liberal party after they unexpectedly granted him a week off as Opposition leader.
“It was most unexpected and very thoughtful of the Liberals,” said a relaxed Bill Shorten. “I understand it may have been Tony Abbott’s idea to grant me the week off. He feels that he and his fellow backbenchers can do just as good a job as opposition leader as Myself.”
“After witnessing his work for the last couple of weeks and seeing the polls, I think he might be right.”
When reached for comment acting Opposition leader Tony Abbott explained his reasoning, saying: “Bill is a bit of a light weight when it comes to being Opposition leader so I felt that I needed to step in and make sure acting Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was match fit.”
“A couple of weeks sparring with me and the boys on the backbench and Malcolm will be fighting fit, or maybe he to will need a holiday.”
