Prime Minister Scott Morrison has made an eleventh hour call to parachute in as Australian of the year former Labor party President and current Liberal party candidate Warren Mundine. In a move that overrules the Australian of the year selection panel.
“Look sometimes you have to go with your gut and my gut is saying go with Mundine and maybe grab a pie,” said Prime Minister Morrison. “Warren has done so much for this country I mean besides Mark Latham what other individual has been a paid up member of at least three political parties.”
When asked if he considered any other prominent Australians for the honour Mr Morrison replied: “I will say I was leaning towards the mighty Cronulla sharks mascot MC Hammerhead and it was only when I learnt how few people actually follow rugby league that I changed my mind.”
“Peter Dutton did also want me to nominate him but his evidence for getting the honour was compiled by Matthias Cormann so you have to take that with a grain of salt don’t you.”
The Australian of the year will be announced on Australia day eve with the winner receiving the title and a $20 Lowes gift card.
