The NSW State Government has announced that as well as shutting down shops for the day they will also be making it compulsory for all residents to spend ANZAC day at their local RSL gambling away at either a two Up game or on the pokies.
”The diggers gave so much for this country and it’s time for people to start giving as well,” said Liberal, err, sorry, Labor Premier Chris Minns. ”To the residents of NSW, I say, get down to your local club or RSL and get on the pokies.”
”That money that you were going to use on a new pair of shoes, rent or a house deposit will be better spent on the one armed bandits.”
When asked why the State was seemingly punishing retailers and rewarding gambling venues, the Premier said: ”We are punishing no one. In fact at the moment we are in talks with the supermarkets to install pokie machines in store.”
”Imagine that, going down for bread and milk and coming back with a jackpot.”
”Of course, if we do this we will have to compensate every RSL in the state, but it’s a small price to pay.”
”Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to head on out to the people and get the message out for them to keep gambling.”
