Opposition leader Bill Shorten has declined to offer Minister for Home Affairs Peter Dutton a parliamentary au pair so that the Minister would be able to miss this week’s sitting of parliament.
“Usually it is a formality that the Opposition would offer a member of parliament a pair should they request it,” said a Parliamentary Spokesperson. “However Mr Shorten in this case declined Minister Dutton’s request as he was unsure if the Minister wanted a pair or an au pair.”
“So he asked the Minister’s office for clarification.”
When reached for comment Minister Dutton said of the request: “Mr Shorten is playing politics here, when he should be thinking of others. Careers are at stake this week, by careers I mean my career.”
“As Minister for Home Affairs I should never be questioned, Bill Shorten has just made ze list.”
